Refer a client to Align Prosthetics

For GPs, surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, wound care teams and support coordinators. Maegan Morrison, AOPA Certified prosthetist and orthotist, sees every referred client herself, at home across the Sunshine Coast or at our Birtinya clinic.

Who to refer

Prosthetics

  • New lower-limb or upper-limb amputations, once ready for prosthetic fitting
  • Clients before a planned amputation who want to know what to expect
  • Loose, painful or ill-fitting sockets, and skin problems
  • Replacement prostheses and component upgrades
  • Sports, running and water prostheses
  • Repairs, reviews and second opinions

Orthotics

  • AFOs and KAFOs for foot drop, stroke, MS, CP and nerve injury
  • Custom foot orthoses, including diabetic and high-risk foot offloading
  • Unloader braces for knee osteoarthritis and ligament braces
  • Spinal bracing after fracture or surgery, to your instructions
  • Children’s orthoses, reviewed around growth

Not sure whether a client is suitable? Call and ask. We don’t currently provide finger or partial-hand prostheses.

What to include

  • Client name, date of birth and contact details (and a carer’s, if relevant)
  • Reason for referral, diagnosis and relevant history
  • Surgery dates, wound status, precautions or weight-bearing limits
  • Funding details: NDIS number and plan-management type, DVA file number or WorkCover claim number
  • Any urgency, such as a planned hospital discharge
  • Your details, so we can send you updates

A referral letter from your practice software is fine. You don’t need a special form.

What happens next

  1. 1We contact your client to arrange an assessment at home or at our Birtinya clinic. Initial appointments are usually available within 7 days.
  2. 2You receive a written summary after the initial assessment and an update after fitting.
  3. 3We prepare the assessment, quote and reports the funder needs, and keep you in the loop.

Funding at a glance

NDIS
Self-managed and plan-managed participants. We cannot be paid from agency-managed (NDIA-managed) funds.
DVA
We confirm what referral or approval DVA needs before starting.
WorkCover
Once the claim is accepted and the insurer approves the quote.
NIISQ and CTP
Motor vehicle injuries, once the scheme or insurer approves the quote.
Private health
Some extras policies pay a partial rebate on devices.
Self-funded
Itemised quote before anything is made.
